Mike Perez Beats Magomed Abdusalamov at MSG

In the HBO TV opener, Mike Perez took on Magomed Abdusalamov in a heavyweight tussle at the MSG Theater in NYC on Saturday evening. They engaged in a fan friendly scrap, tons of action for fans used to subpar heavyweight tangles. Perez looked the part of the crafty Cuban, and showed a wider array of skills and tactics. We went to the cards, and received word of a UD10, with Perez getting the nod by scores of 97-92, 95-94, 97-92.
Perez, born in Cuba, was 19-0 entering, while the Russian Mago was 18-0. One-twos, and a sharp left, won the first for Perez. He had the "harder" hitter Mago backing up. The second was tighter, as Mago closed the distance. He jabbed more, and though he was bleeding from his nose, had a better round. Perez' body work impressed, however. Both lefties were working hard.
In the third, it was another action round. Perez got clanged with some head bobbers, but stayed in come forward mode. In the fourth, Mago's inside work, left uppers and left to the body, spoke loudly.
In the fifth, Perez had his best round. His right hook continued to do damage, on Mago's puffed cheek. In the sixth, Perez was at a confident high. His defense didn't let him down, not too much anyway. Mago landed clean late in the seventh, but Perez was in a nice rhythm before that. In the eighth, Perez again had Mago backing up. In the ninth, the ref took a point from Perez for straying low. Mago has an upswing in the ninth, as he was the busier man. He knocked Perez back with a left midway through. In the 10th, Perez again pushed Mago back for much of the round, and stung him at one point. But we'd go to the cards, and hoped for them doing the right thing.

Irish Mike Perez and Mago Abdusalamalakemov fought a fun and interesting fight tonight. The first four rounds were back and fourth slam bang that would have made Arturo Gatti proud. After that Perez boxed his way into the title picture at heavyweight. I mean who else is there? Good fight, lets see both men again down the line after their faces heal up.

this was a good and fun fight.

Perez has some good boxing skills for sure.

if he wants to contend for the title i would like to see him tighten up his D and not get hit as much.

Looked like another deceptionfest to me. Both bums reminded me of the Bama Wilder. Let Perez fight him. And I'll bet a supa-dupa (sic) stinkfest. The Irish Cuban would defeat another undefeated heavy with all knockouts and haven't ever went five rounds.

Wilder would probably pass out from wild swinging and the lies about him being good that so many know nothings and hopers are singing. Holla!

I heard of Perez but I didn't know he was a Cuban...or Irish lol.
I've never seen a pudgy short armed heavy weight dealing out punches from the hip like a whirling Dervish the way Perez does......a very unique style. A very solid chin.
Two Titans on a collision course, absorbing earth-shattering bombs and stepping back into the fray as if they had short term memory and were desensitized to pain.
Magomed finally met someone he couldn't steamroll. But he never stopped trying.
I would have been no shame to quit.
Much respect to both men for challenging themselves in an era where many are just satisfied to simply pad their records.
    I enjoyed the bout immensely.
Wilder this is the future...you'd better prepare.

Good fight. Not quite as 'spectac' as Lampley & crew extolled, I felt. But listen, it's the HW division . . . I'll take it happily.
